Simon Jones

Thoughts framed by rambling leaky words. Lines entwining, constructed with shapes and coloured with emotion.

My work is not a campaign or a depiction but an attempt to lock fleeting reality. Painting conjures layered views. The method of application demands revision – colours mixed, paint loaded onto brushes and marks made, each move providing an opportunity for contemplation.

It is my reflections and feelings toward shifting relationships that I draw and paint – a response to a flawed world, with poignant beautiful moments; even when terrible. ‘Change’ and the space beyond the rational interests me. Through painting I find a truth, something simple, personal and real.

Colour allows this to be taken further, it is an extolment for that beyond the rational. It is the means by which this space must be expressed. Not necessarily an illusion of space but a living, vibrant, pictorial space. I want to use colour to liberate and create a fundamental beauty reflecting truths.

These paintings, on paper, are the crossing between the drawings and the paintings above. They are spontaneous and experimental in their nature.
